Bikepacking Adventure

My first bikepacking trip - an off-road mountain biking & wild camping expedition in the Quantocks, Somerset. The resilience and skills I developed during DofE school expeditions gave me and two school friends the skills to independently plan, organise and complete a very soggy and muddy mountain bike expedition during October half-term 2023. I can't wait for our next trip!

Reducing waste- repairing technology for reuse

I mended a broken screen on a laptop and the supplier of the new screen gave me £20 to make them a video showing how to install it which they loved. I find it frustrating that people discard computers that they think aren't working but all they need is a simple fix. The environment is important to me and there is a growing mountain of computer waste in the world. My plan is to keep an eye out on Facebook for suitable broken devices and gradually develop my skills to mend them and make videos at the same time to help others do the same to reduce our waste.

Reducing My Energy Usage

The aim of this project was to reduce our energy usage and environmental impact at home by changing all our halogen spotlight bulbs to LED bulbs at home. This saved over a whopping 1kW/hour.

Community Action

I am a member of the Community Action Group (CAG) at Wellington School & we participate in activities to help the local community and environment. I recently participated in an event at Langford Heathfield which is the Somerset Wildlife Trusts second largest nature reserve. We cleared large areas of gorse to encourage wild flowers to grow and encourage bees and insects to thrive.

PaperCut Print Management Software

I have installed print management software called PaperCut on our devices and printer and this allows me to try and persuade my family to reduce the amount of CO2 used per day by reducing their printing. PaperCut advises them to convert their printing jobs to Duplex or black and white to save ink costs or paper costs. It also allow me to see how much CO2 we are producing from printing alone.
