CCTV System

24/7 Surveillance

Purpose of the installation

The purpose of the installation was to protect a property from burglars and to build a reliable system that would last many years without failure. I have built the system up gradually adding more cameras. My installations have got much tidier as I have gained experience and perfected my skills. We now have a 7 camera system and I have mapped out the entire property and scaled the type of cameras and quality to get the peak night vision performance as well as the best coverage. The system is a mix of 4 Turret cameras, 1 Bullet camera, 1 Dome Camera and 1 PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) camera. Below there are some example images of the cameras I have installed:

How I Ran the Cables and Why:

When I was running the cables I made sure if any were going to be reachable I would put a plastic PVC pipe around them to protect them from any damage which someone may cause. I also made sure at any possible location I ran the cables internally rather than externally as this would reduce the chance of damage. For the cameras at longer distances, I ran the cables underground in hosepipes for protection against the weather. I also made sure to use a surge protector on the cables at a large distance away from the house to prevent damage to any equipment in the event of lightning strikes. I had the majority of the cables running back to the hidden NVR but many to the server cabinet where my router is stored as well as multiple POE switches to power cameras and access points. Then these cameras connect to the NVR via the static IP address given by the router. When connecting the RJ45 connectors I tried to do as neat a job as possible. Below there is a before and after photo:

Outcomes

Overall, I am extremely happy with the outcomes of the CCTV system. It would have helped in some places maybe removing a bush in the garden to increase the strength and quality of the night vision. Although this is not a huge issue due to having multiple cameras covering the same area to increase the nightvision range of all of the cameras in that area. The PTZ camera having a 50 metre night vision range is extremely helpful as it can fully cover the driveway and all the way back to the end of the

driveway without needing multiple cameras in one area. All of

the cameras have a feature called smart detection. This does

not work off motion in the image to send you a notification but

AI object filtering so that you only get a notification if for example

there is a human detected but if some of the bushes move in the area you won't. This will reduce false alerts and you will have increased confidence that it actually has detected someone in the garden. Below are images of the CCTV cameras at different times.
